This event is in all likelihood the event Poirot is attending (and foiled the bomb threat to), since it's a 'Pride Masquerade Ball', and they mention having security issues that delayed the event. I've contacted both of them regarding the connection, since (due to security) Holmes won't be allowed in due to security arrangements. If Poirot is available to vouch for him, however...

Poirot INVITED him. Everything is fine. This is all part of the plan as far as I can tell.
