The Key text would need to be as long as the coded text. Wikipedia has an example

Adell: It is possibly to decypher one of those without a key and I know how in theory, but that needs more text to work. The sample we have would barely yield anything for even plain frequency analysis, which is why I'm looking at letter relations instead. The key can be of any length, but cracking a Virgenere cypher from scratch is impossible with a key as long as the text.

The last line is a coherent sentence. TBH i'm just kinda thinking aloud.

The word Joe is underlined. Could that be the key word?

Well, on the subject of trying to read it in columns, I did a transposition of the normalized matrix, 19 characters/line, 18 in the last 3 lines according to the image.

Assuming that the Capitals mark the end of a word as mentioned by the Sherlock Holmes cannon, that path is fake as the last word would not have a ending capital.

Unless we ALSO turn it backwards. But, in doing so we have 3 single character words. Or have to recgonize . and : as characters themselves.

It's not perfect, but we're on the right track!

I used that link to the vigenere decoder, pasted the text and put Joe as the key. I pressed decode. Nothing. I then pressed encode and got this:

Alright, nice work guys! We're on the right track, but where do we go from here? Maybe the next few lines use a different key word?

Or, more likely, we got some of the letters wrong in our initial translation by accident? For example, EncodeD is clearly the word but we got encodeV. So the letter there might actually be a Z, not an R.

I just used the key (Joe) that NeverSlender and Snackerbob suggested. Maybe it was a translating difference with the dancing men, but everything came out perfectly when I put it in a vigenere :]
