I was thinking the thorn was from Morgana-- the time period fits. And none of them dresses like Beowulf, so-- law of conservation of characters.

Yes. Morgana Le Fay was in Medieval England, and studied tons of healing and black magic. Runes or magic symbols were probably part of those.

It's not a rune it's a letter, like f or s. It's just not used anymore.

...aaand that letter was sent by Oberon (it's the first one that Angelus reacted to).
Dammit, it was so obvious! I dismissed the letters' style because they tried to use different ones, but the first one could be sent in the author's original style!
Basically, more evidence to "Oberon = Morgana" theory.

I'm more interested in the other letter, the limerick.

What limerick? We know that Oberon wrote the letter? I'm so confused. I can't find this stuff!

Oh, and did you guys read this at the end of Holmes's post?

There is much that I find interesting about it; it seems the man in question is applying for some kind of job, although his eagerness to do so bewilders me; it is clear that he has no qualifications to speak of. In his defense, I had a good argument about it with the attendant Sandy who disagreed; she was rather charmed by his apparent desperation and believed having the dream and wishing for it so sincerely ought to be qualification enough.

Sandy claims that the letter writer was a man - that would disprove our Oberon is Morgana theory, if Oberon is the letter writer, wouldn't it? Unless she disguised her gender...

That's something different,I don't think that letter came from the cabal.

The limerick is this, it's the second letter Joe received.

I agree with the thorn being evidence that Oberon is Morgana, but as for the French accent, I'm pretty damn sure that Dryu is right and the "dangerous" message was left by a Frenchman. The other one...eeeeeh maaaaaaaaybe. I'm not convinced. Maybe I should listen to it again.

I'm not convinced that Oberon is Moragana--the most threatening message on Joan's phone was from a male voice, and Oberon is the most threatening one of the Cabal. The female voice seemed to consider Joan beneath her, as a simpleton or somesuch. If we can match that point of view with one of the Cabal chat members, we'll be able to pinpoint which one is the woman much more easily.

Incidentally, I'm very curious as to who Angelus would know on Boston that owes him/her a "professional favor." It implies that either Angelus has been here for a while, or s/he moves very quickly in establishing contacts.

Last thing: I find the Cabal's reluctance to talk to us absurd in light of their very public statements that they are willing to co-operate with anyone who wants to help them.

I find it probable that they feel extremely threatened by Mr. A, and see this forum as an extension of his power, considering how much influence he has over it. We can tell them that it isn't, but they don't have much reason to believe us.

And there's a better way for them to talk to us?

That's the thing, though; if I have their goals and personalities right (not a guarantee), they'll see any person on this forum as being an extension of Mr. A's influence. I know there's a lot of theories about how to work with the characters without necessarily sending them back, but we're all here because Mr. A suggested it, and they're not going to trust any of us just because we said, "Hey, man, it's cool, you can trust us."

As to a better way to get them to trust us, I have no idea.

...Yeah, I doubt the Cabal's going to trust any of us. We've already stated our disapproval of their techniques.

I think some will listen. Steinitz and Oberon, probably not, Angelus maybe, Pyramus almost certainly.

I haven't been paying a whole ton of attention, but my impression of Angelus is that he's seeing his predicament under the lens of "any means necessary, some means preferred". If we can convince him (and Mr. A) that we have a method that works, and that it's superior to "hurt everyone", we can probably get him on our side.

There's no real indication that it was a man-- only speculation/ assumption from Holmes and the hotel attendant. That still doesn't disprove Morgana in any real way.

Also, maybe someone should try contacting Angelus or Pyramus with a name unconnected to the forum. Try to gain the confidence of just one of them, and then... we'll see where we get. Angelus for preference, because he's the most reasonable and has the most access to their chats, etc.

Zup was thinking about the wrong letter. The letter we were talking about was the first one Joe got, confirmed to be from Oberon. You guys are thinking about the letter that Holmes just posted.

I dunno, my bets are still placed on Mordred, personally. It FEELS rather like him... then again would he have been able to develop such net savvy in such a short space of time?

Ok, it's time to put this topic back on track.
We have what some believe is a confirmation from Metaneko (I'm still suspicious, though). This is our current suspect list:
Angelus: The Phantom Of The Opera (AKA The Angel of Music, AKA Erik).
Pyramus: Don Juan
Steinitz: James Moriarty
Oberon: Morgana Le Fey

We still need to confirm the identities by ourselves.

It gets more and more likely that the title page of the comic shows the Cabal, but, for example, the man with glasses doesn't look like Don Juan or Moriarty. And if we match the threats as per that list:
  • "Sculpted" - Don Juan (he really did like that woman... and all others ;) )
  • "Killed many people" - Phantom (French accent)
  • "Now we have it" - Morgana (the only woman on the list, duh)
...then Moriarty stays with his threat about the archetype. That just... doesn't fit.
And there are more facts. I'd be grateful if somebody took it from here, as with all the latest data, my mind is a mess.

Also with LeFay, a stupidly vague connection to Oberon in a medieval text that I am quite pleased with myself for finding out. But yeah... looks like we have them down. :D And you can see why each of them have reasons for wanting to stay in this world.

I don't blame you for being suspicious though. I mean the thing about the Cheshire cat is... we don't actually know WHAT his goals are, do we? Does he want to stay, does he want to go? I think maybe his speech in the Cabal's thread was just him making stuff up, m'pretty sure nothing horrible happened to him in Alice in Wonderland.

The Cheshire Cat, I think, is true to his original character: vague and really annoying.

As for the threat about the archetypes, that's been running through my head all day, yeah. However, it is an English accent, though what kind I can't place.
