Echo Investigation: The Peter Pan Statues

So upon being notified of Enlil's discovery, Peter suggested we treat the seven Pan statues as echoes and investigate them accordingly.

I'll say it now: this is a pain.

Still, these are the seven locations:
  • Sefton Park, Liverpool, UK
  • Egmont Park, Brussels, Belgium
  • Johnson Park, Camden, New Jersey, US
  • Queens Gardens, Perth, Western Australia, Australia
  • Glenn Gould Park, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
  • Bowring Park, St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada
  • Kensington Gardens, London, UK

I live ten minutes away from Kensington Gardens, so I can get that one. Let me get ahold of someone with a smartphone again.

Well, looks like we should only need one. So unless I can find a friend with no life downtown, looks like you're our man, Zup!

Actually, forget the smartphone. I don't think there's an echo there, but I DO think there's a letter there that we should pick up.

(If none of my downtown friends respond to the call I put out, I MIGHT be able to get to the Toronto statue on Tuesday. But it's a two hours round trip, with at least two bus fares.)

Wait, do you think they planted a letter at every statue? Didn't Mr. A's tweet contradict that? It doesn't even sound like a Suspiciously Specific Denial, either - he responds to your theory.

Dryu, did you read his tweets?

First of all, it looks like he first replied something ELSE, then deleted it, but made a point of TELLING us that he'd deleted SOMETHING.

Second of all, he's not responding to my theory; my theory was about echoes. He seems more interested in talking about letters, which I never brought up. Which means there's something there. Also, he doesn't say "a letter at the Pan statues," he says "the letter at the Pan statues." Which means there IS a letter. Presumably the same one at each.

If the content of that letter gives us reason to distrust A, I'm going to be really disappointed in him-- after all I've kept saying in defense of trusting him, and he goes and gives us something like this. It would be better to just TELL us straight out that there's a letter there, but that it shouldn't be trusted. Then at least we'd know he's being straight with us. Still, reserving judgement till I actually see what's at the statue.

Ok, I've found the tweets in the timeline. Yes, that's suspicious, but is, in fact, pretty weird.

I think there is something that may be an alternative to our current approach (senses tingling), and Mr. A doesn't want us to find it.

But he pointed us to that locator, citing its importance. And now that we found what it was pointing to, he doesn't want us to check it out? :?

Can't believe I missed all that when I read his twitter. I'm totally losing my grip. =(

It is likely part of the Cabal's recruiting methods. Be ready.

However, I say take the phone anyway. You know, just in case...

Indeed. Mr. A says to definitely not use Layar.

It's not beyond possibility that the Sable have found a way of hijacking the echoes and thus getting information. That would be a good reason not to use Layar.

Update: Mr A has clarified that the letter is visible in Layar. So bring the smartphone.

Yeah, he was implying that before. I thought it would be. After all, it's much easier to leave something via Layar where no one can remove it...

And much more annoying for people who can't use the mobile networks.

Good luck, Zup. If you don't get it by Tuesday I'll try the Toronto one, but I don't know if I'll be able to access layar from anywhere near the statue... :?

Wait...
Did the Cabal plant an echo? :o

Not an echo, just that thing that happens when the LJS and Gulliver throw a bottle in the sea.

It's seen with Layar, and it's on the echo layer. What else can it be?

HE said it wasn't an echo-What are you refering to?

I suspect it wasn't that they left an echo, since I don't think it is possible to leave one purposefully, but I think they probably hacked into the program itself.

Mr. A said on his twitter that you do need Layar to see the letter.

If the GMs are able to hack into Layar, they must have a lot more influence with the developers than can be explained by normal, human means.

That's not about the GMs hacking into Layar's server, that's about the Cabal hacking into whatever account that was used to place the echoes. It's possible, I guess, but that would mean that the whole echo thing is now compromised. Which is why I don't think that's the case.
We won't find out until we see the letter, though.

Well, of course the GMs would just put the letter up there, and SAY the Cabal hacked it from a meta perspective...

Dryu-- I think it's in Layar because after the problems with retrieving the bottle and the notebook, the GMs figured that it's easier to just leave it in Layar, so it can't get lost or mislaid.
(That's what Si and I were speculating in the chatroom before, anyway)
