If we can find this one quickly, we might be able to use Holmes to refictionalize Don Juan.

It's not as urgent as Don Quixote, because it's doubtful this will be our one and only chance to expose Don Juan to his story, and the Holmes investigation is happening fast enough that some of us (myself included) may have unresolved reservations about refictionalizing a character against their will, but I think we should at least find the Echo if we can. I'd rather have the hard choice available to me than find that inaction has made the choice for me.

Now. I don't know ANYONE in Texas. And there's been precious little activity on this thread. Does anyone have any ideas as to how we can move on this?

I have a co-worker driving from Dallas to San Antonio next week that puts her driving right past this as she goes through Austin. She is always up for an adventure so I am sure she could get it.

I got the message, but since (as I've said elsewhere) I don't have a smart phone, this co-worker is probably your best option.

Trope-wise-- well, he does a perfect Facepalm in the last panel, but not sure if that's strong enough. There should be a trope for the whole "we are all individuals" thing, but Life of Brian (which should be the Trope Codifier for that, if it IS a trope) didn't bluelink it to anything.

Done. Awaiting response now. Honestly, Stop Worshipping Me is kind of iffy. It almost fits, but the interpretation of "worshipping" isn't literal enough. Square Peg, Round Trope might hinder refic. Comically Missing the Point, OTOH, is a much better fit. I could have sworn that there was a "We Are All Individuals" like Qara-Xuan Zenith said, but no set of keywords has revealed it to me. My Google-fu is weak.

I fail at asking questions, apparently, because I looked over my question after receiving a reply and holy crap was that a stupid question.

The question now becomes "what do we do with this information?" What is our stance on the cabal? Personally, I'm of the opinion that it would be better for them if we sent them back as well. Secondly, any and all information that comes from a group that includes Morgana le Fay is suspect as far as I'm concerned. The woman personifies ulterior motives.

Edit: Another reply after clarifying my question, and we have more weapons at our disposal. If we have tropes that seem to fit, it can't hurt to include more than one in a prominent manner, just to cover our bases.

I'm hesitant to ask, but a part of me is really curious about what would happen if I included an obvious author insert... Really curious.

Well, A's said that self-insert fics, and stories with characters from the real world in general, don't have enough "narrative weight" to be elevated to canon-- so all that would happen, probably, is yours wouldn't be picked (that said, if you're still interested, there's nothing stopping you from writing one and sending it in anyway).

As to your other question-- I figure our best bet is to write the refics-- even send them in if we want-- and we can always hold off on actually "enacting" them until we've decided exactly what we're going to do with them. Sort of like the exact corollary to our "locate but don't scan the Wall pieces" plan-- so we'll have it ready on a moment's notice should we decide that we'll want/need to use them.

That said, I'm writing one (despite less-than-perfect source material familiarity) and will ensure that they'll be refic'ed no matter what... no more, I'm sure, than everyone here expected of me.

What A said was an accurate, but broad, generalization on the topic of self-insert fiction. A fiction with a self-insert in it is not a Self Insert Fic. A fic about a self-insert is. Anyway, I will likely not follow up on my interesting idea, simply because I doubt I'd find a way to make it natural.

In the meantime, we shall see what inspiration strikes with regards to refic as this goes on.
