I want to comment that it puts me in mind of Phantom of the Opera, but before I do-- anyone thinks that's a bad idea?

Also, is it just me, or is his cat also polydactyl? Should I ask that (and suggest the cat-nickname Mary, for laughs)?

Well, I will say as someone who read the book about six months back that the monster certainly could have written it. He really was EXTREMELY verbose...
