Those puppets...

I've been digging through the megathread after Slender's comment, and remembered a detail about the puppets video.
What are those beeps and clicks for? (I also recall them on one of Joe's videos, but can't remember which one.) And why does the audio start after a pause?

I'm only guessing, but I think the beeps and stuff were actually just feedback from his camera. We frigging examined that audio to bajesus and back, so I imagine the only thing it COULD be was audio feedback. No idea why it started halfway in though.

The sounds were, in fact, feedback from the camera. The same sound appeared in at least one of the Joe videos because it was shot handheld with no external microphone. The only reason it doesn't start immediately in the puppets video is editing failure.

Incidentally, there was originally supposed to be some hidden audio in the puppets video but it was cut because, among other things, it was stupid.

Yup. We were going to make the beeps a morse code until we realized that 1) editing that would be 0 funs and 2) there was no plausible in-story reason for why the beeps would be morse code.

@Dryu: You were hearing the sounds his camera made when it was on, that's pretty much all.

It would've been amusing to haver some random irrelevant bit of morse code that wasn't actually pointed at all, but was just funny, like the puppets having worked out a silent communication between each other like 'who's this weird guy staring at us with a camera?' but that would've been more work for zero actual progress and... well, you know what we're like for overreading into things. We'd have spent hours MAKING it mean something (we did the same with the Cthulhu app.)

Your job was to read into things. It was actually a perfectly reasonable assumption--we'd hidden things in videos before. And we even planned on using it as a puzzle, we just didn't have time to make the implementation work.

So yeah, it's an ARG. Read into things!

Was one of the other reasons the fact that doing so would've required us to watch that video multiple times, which is, I believe, a violation of the Geneva Convention?

Puppets are creepy...

Don't ask me. Alex deliberately didn't tell me what was up with that video so that we could test whether or not the players would get it quickly.

As it only took my second viewing, it was determined that folks would get it fast enough. And that I really should stop creeping myself out with that video. You'd really think, after the fiftieth time, I would have stopped.
