Honestly, I just don't think he actually KNOWS what he is, or where he came from or what his true purpose is anymore than we do. He's just... there.

I honestly think we might be better off just never knowing.

Technically, speaking, he wouldn't dissect himself. He would dissect an instantation.

Not saying one way or the other if he has actually done so, though.
