Okay, out of work now, so I'll explain everything a bit more in that
alternate universe where the app wasn't real and cthulu wasn't real (man I wish I had been in that universe, maybe I wouldn't have gotten a concussion!):
Basically, there was no app and there never was gonna be an app. It was merely setting up for how the player would confront cthulu, and was never meant to be elaborated on, and they pretty much gave me free reign to explain how the app worked as long as it sounded confusing. When I was first asked about it by I think blackwolfe, I didn't actually have the image (and hadn't even thought to make one) so I merely described it as "colorful" and that it confused the hell out of me. This was to set up, As Sicon mentioned in the post above the original plan to have him or mimsy come through and help me understand it during the confrontation, but we didn't end up getting that part recorded in time so Sicon's part of the finale just stayed focused on the witch and poirot.
Wanting to make this as interesting as possible, and worrying that people would break suspension of disbelief without a screencap of the app, I asked Tom(since like I said, I didn't have a smartphone) to send me over a screencap of layar. The one he sent me was of his friend with the fishy face. Yeah, I didn't know who he was but it was so funny to us that I used it anyway. After that I just tried to fit in as many confusing elements to the image as possible and came up with random terms that didn't mean anything just to add to the confusion.
When it came to the symbols, I intentionally picked ones that I thought would be fitting for something involving a final conflict, but there was really no purpose to them they were just being symbolic for symbolic sake. However, after you guys came up with an admittedly very awesome reason for the symbols to be there I think it became generally accepted that the purpose of the symbols was to protect the user. After I made it, I posted it up for you guys to see and be interested in, and then I went off to film my segment of the final battle. Despite how it may have looked, I nor the actors playing the cabal ever actually met, we filmed all of our stuff separately and Alex edited it together. It was very silly yelling by myself in the forest, but it could have been worse I guess, I do have a couple different versions of everything I say during the video if you guys want to hear in the future, but it's really nothing special :3
Of course, I would mean all of the above if this hadn't actually happened. Which it did as far as I can tell. remember, concussion? My memory of the events is fuzzy and all I have to go off of is what the gms and the video say (both of which say it's real!) So I guess my friends phone really did melt!
