Yes that's what I felt but the whole idea in itself is very sound I think.

Maybe we could afford to be a little less... direct. After all if this guy is smart enough to convey messages to us in the form of a cookery blog, then surely he can follow a few vague suggestions? Maybe it's time for US to try leaving some obscure messages of our own.

How about something confirming we'd tried the recipe and an 'information understood' hint as we mentioned... then something mentioning Line Cookies, and how they're good for get togethers, and... I just ran out of ideas.

We could then possibly find some way to link him to a Food Related trope... leave a message in a food related tropes page for him, with details?

How about "a group of four friends"?

And also something about how it's great that I understood his recipe, "loud and clear", and was therefore able to make it?

Yes at the very least we should have soemthing like that. So combining all of the above suggestions:

"Usually I have trouble with recipies online but I understood this one loud and clear, thank you for letting us know about it. We'll be sure to keep an eye out for more recipes from you! There's a group of friends coming around ours later (just four or so). Do you think this recipe's ingredients are suitable for that many people, or should we increase the ammount we use?

PS: Have you ever tried Lime Cookies? I know that sounds a crazy combination, but they're meant to be awesome."

How's that?

If we wanted to depend on his own technical abilities (it's be nice to lead soembody to US for a change, if we can do that with this guy) we could also try leaving obscure connections to a tv tropes page. Something like (we all know everything's better with chocolate, see even these guys agree: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/M ... hChocolate) and then leaving a message for him there.

We'll have to embed a message on that tvtropes page before we send the comment, then.
What do you suggest for that?

Assuming he's smart enough to open some links, which I'm pretty sure he is? We could add it in the page at the bottom of the 'Real Life' section. Just something like: Experiments in Food Preparation, the online cookery blog, is a great believer in the benefits of chocolate, as discovered by [[www.watchthefootage.com these guys.]] Aaaand maybe something in a small postnote asking him if he knows?

I dunno that... feels a bit clumsy to me, but I think the idea itself works. Do you have a better suggestion? :?

Maybe we should pick a trope that relates directly to one of his posts? Pick a harmless alcohol trope, and we can link to the most recent one (champagne butternut squash soup).
And then maybe... have as a footnote or spoilered an invitation to join us here?

Sounds like a good plan to me :)

How about the In Vino Veritas trope? http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/M ... inoVeritas

These four friends of mine always INSIST I'm trying to get them drunk when they come round. You know what they say after all [link to trope page]. There's no way they won't believe I am if I serve this! (incidentally that's a great link, you should check out the effects in Real Life.)

...Uh. Although that said, what do we LINK him to? The forum? Joe?

How about this slight variation:

I often find recipes difficult to understand, but this time, I think I got it loud and clear. My friends always INSIST I'm trying to get them drunk when they come round, and there's no way they won't believe I am if I serve this! Still, there's a specific group of four pals that I really want to try this recipe with. (Incidentally, here's http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/InVinoVeritas a great link about what I'm saying; you should check out the effects in Real Life.)

On an unrelated note, have you ever tried making Lime Cookies? I know it sounds like a strange combination, but between your cooking skills and the limes themselves, I think it's awesome enough to work.

And before we send this, we add to the In Vino Veritas page something like the following under Real Life:
The Experiments in Food Preparation blog has a good example of this (http://efp.ezblog.twwf.info/?p=41. Spoiler or footnote: More details of how this is relevant at http://forum.watchthefootage.twwf.info/index.php. We are not Rickrolling you.

Not subtle enough? Too subtle?

I know right? :D But what the heck, I've gotten tired of just following vague clues and breadcrumb trails and being led up metaphorical garden paths, I wanna try placing some of our own. If it fails it fails but worth a shot, I think :)

That sounds right to me, although I will change the beginning slightly to include my 'speaking of experiments, "hows the butternut squash champagne soup coming along?", because he hasn't actually posted that recipe yet.

Qara-Xuan Zenith wrote:Not subtle enough? Too subtle?
A little subtle, but if we add a... shal lwe say, slightly dramatuc overtone. Like add "don't tell your website" on the end, I think it'll intrigue him enough.

Ready to try it?

I dont know... is it? The most recent one I'M seeing is 'On Various Experiments' the squash soup has only been vaguely mentioned a few entries back...

Edit: No wait, I got it, I didn't realise the soup was already up there was the Phantom soup

Either way, are we okay to try this?

I just added that to the In Vino Veritas page. Now for the comment?

And I'm going to tweak the Lime cookies line as follows, to make sure he reads the spoiler:
On an unrelated note, have you ever tried making Lime Cookies? I spoiled the last batch I tried to make, but with your cooking skills, I think it's awesome enough to work.

Got it.

I'll post it on the Phantom entry, which is a couple of ebtries down now, that should help cover too.

Aaaand either we'll hear nothing and go down on the forum as crazy paranoids, or we may have just found an ally XD

Edit: All done.

Excellent (and it looks like he's been involved in a dialogue on that page's comments, so he'll be likely to see).

Probably. If we wanted to be sure we could always say we made a comment a few entries down in the FIRST entry, disguised as another relevant comment?

Wait. Are you suggesting we leave a comment directing him to ANOTHER comment, directing him to the tvtropes page, directing him here?
Because in that case... Yes. Yes, absolutely. I salute you.

How about we leave that comment on the bacon cake page?

Idea: We can put the first part of the comment-- about him coming through loud and clear-- on the Phantom post, but directing him to the comment on the bacon cake post.

On the bacon cake post we put the rest of the comment, tweaking it a little so the In Vino Veritas reference clearly refers to the Kahlua cake he mentioned at the beginning of it.

I think this should do for now. We can just leave a comment on the newest page to make CERTAIN he gets the one a few entries down, on the Phantom of the Opera meal page.

Sicon112 wrote:OK, NOW you guys have gone totally overboard, even for ME.

We'll take that as a compliment (in seirousness, yeah I know it'd a bit overboard but better safe than sorry frankly. Just wanna be sure he sees it, even if it turns out to be completely irrelevant.)

Actually, Scarab, if we make a comment linking to a comment, we're going to have to post them at the same time.

How about I comment on the newest post with:
I often find recipes difficult to understand, but this time, I think I got it loud and clear. I have trouble expressing myself sometimes; I think someone else said what I'm thinking best in a comment a few posts down.

And at the same time, you comment on the Phantom post with the rest of the message.

Post to confirm timing-- within one minute of your next post we'll both put up the comments?

Bugger, uh, sorry I already posted a comment v.v I get excited when I'm preoccupied This is on the newest entry.

Sorry the recipe didn’t work! Sometimes things don’t work out as expected, but it’s always worth trying or else you’ll never know for sure.
Still gonna try it with my friends anyway, it’s just too good to pass up at Halloween! (Did you get the comment on the Phantom Soup entry?) And possibly the limeade too…

You could still make that comment though unless you think we'd be going SERIOUSLY overboard there (I think we're starting to push it here).
