Opening Dialogues - The Metaguard Mission Statement

Postby Scarab on Sat Nov 10, 2012 9:51 pm

Okay, remember that Opening Dialogues thread we started a while back? Well in light of Mr A's announcement that we now have several more characters ready for refictionalisation, we think it's time to get it started. To this end we have opted to suggest the creation of a Metaguard Mission Statement to show the characters as we reach their time for return.

We encourage everyone to write their own Openling Dialogue to all the Fictionals and post it here. The dialogue must contain all the information indicated here: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=540

In short, the post must contain the following.

• Who we are and what we’ve been doing all this time (this includes any alternate names we may have used with the fictionals on their blogs or journals. Maybe just have a list somewhere...)
• Who we’re working for.
• Where they’re from and what they actually are. (They can read their wikipedia entries, we can send them there.)
• What will happen to the world it they stay (and hence why we are so worried about them going back).
• What we know about the Cabal (fairly, good and bad, including the fact we know from their logs that the killing of Tara probably wasn’t them)
• What the plan for sending them back is...
• What our possible ideas we have for those who DON’T want to go back. But also mention that, at the moment, we have no idea how or even if this would be possible and they may have to go back for the sake of reality not collapsing.
• The fact that we are not monsters just out to send them back to whatever hell they crawled out of for giggles. We do NOT relish destroying people whose lives are better here than they were. They will be respected. They will be treated as the people they ARE. In short, we shall not be dicks to them about this, it's hard enough as it is.

And then at then at the end, if you think that's what you want from your own dialogue, you can ask them what they want (some of you don't want to do this, in which case just don't include this bit). Please keep in mind we have NO IDEA if this will in any way be possible, or our proposed alternatives will work, but at least by this point we shall then be able to discuss it with them in detail, as individuals.

Everyone then gets to chip in, and a final dialogue will be picked from them all, (or we'll chop and change all the examples until we have to make the best possible statement). This will be posted... somewhere. After that point, all fictionals will be linked to it as soon as they are deemed ready to be returned to their worlds (we may have to post it somewhere password protected, or something, I don't know, we'll think of that once we have the dialogue.)

NB: Each character will be approached individually, as people. This isn't just a 'one size fits all' solution. We are not just going to link every Ready-To-Refic character to that post and be done. We will treat them with respect and as the people we have come to know. If we really have to do this, guys, then let's do it right.

We want to try and find ways of sending them to a place where the fictionals can be happy. Partly because it feels wrong to send them back without a say in what they want in their own lives. So, if you want to try and help, PM me and we'll start a conversation on what to do.

So with his reficitonalisation at hand, Adell has chosen to tell Adam the truth about his identity and what's about to happen . Morally I personally reckon this was the right thing to do. We've talked about openign dialogues before. I guess this is that kind of thing in action.

There is ONE thing Morgan said in chat yesterday that was true - we HAVE maipulated the fictionals, whatever our true reasons, and that was wrong. We have lied to them. We have misled them all to some degree or another, Adam in particular has been pray to it. That's WHY we posited the idea of the opening dialogues thread in the first place. Because it meant an end to the lies. Yes it makes things complicated but really, guys, I think we owe these people.

I know the Nuclear option doesn't always get to be the good guys... but I still want to TRY.

Scarab, I'm just going to refer to what I wrote in the Morgan thread about us manipulating; I don't want to have to re-Wall-of-Text it.

Also, we WERE leading up to telling Adam the truth-- this just blindsided us a little, time-wise.

Anyway, I totally approve of Adell's message, so I guess, bottom line, we all agree.
And it will be a moot point soon, since, one way or another, he will be refic'ed before long.
Why are we even arguing about a dead fictional dude and hypothetical ninjas?

Agreed, Qara. This was... mostly just a moral chocie on Adell's part that we both happen to agree with.

I totally buy the idea that she's manipulating us, and that Erik too was beforehand... but we honestly can't be sure. And either way she DOES still make a couple of relevant points, manipulation or not.
