The Wall Will Not Fall

Postby Lordxana0 on Sat Dec 01, 2012 4:24 am

It won't because we won't let it. We will not give up. We will not fall. We will not look at all the coming work and bow our heads and lay down to be defeated like dogs. We will charge forth and capture every echo, every wall piece, and refictionalize every character. Why is this you may ask? BECAUSE WE ARE TROPERS. We do not back down, we do no surrender, when impossible odds rear their heads at us we yell and scream our defiance into the world and yell in a collective voice "WE WILL NOT GO SILENTLY INTO THAT GOOD NIGHT". So push forward and strike out against all impossibility. I have seen the best humanity has to offer in this forum. And not a single damn one of you will surrender at this point. I know this to be true and you know it to be true. So lets drop the petty bullshit about what to do or how we do what we do and do it. We have a world to save people, and we will do it together. All for one and one for all. TROPERS UNITED! WE WILL NOT FALL!
Who you going to call? ME!

Anyone who ever wants to know anything about this thing we call harder speeching, look no further than the OP of this thread. Xana, you are harder speeching personified. Thank you.

I too believe in us! As a tram, we can accomplish anything! All we have to do is utilize our connections, skills, and resources. Apocalypse? Impossible! As long as we stand tall and true, there is no telling what may happen! Now is our time to shine! Rise, up my fellow Metaguards, rise up and GO! Collect echoes, locate wall pieces, write refictionalizations, as long as you don't just stand around and let our reality crumble around us! So what are we all just sitting around for? GET TO WORK!
By the way, I am speaking to the Metaguards, not the Meta-Knights. I speak to those of us who have simply watched as these threats revealed themselves.
And, yeah, Xana's speech inspired me to let loose a weaker speech.
Apparently, slightly less weird than most of you.

You know, it's not just the Meta-knights who have taken action, though they've done more in the physical realm. Plenty of Metaguards have done far more than "just watch" as these things unfold-- between us, we "mere Metaguards" have written refics and solved Wall Emergencies, reconstructed key video and audio evidence, helped solve mysteries and name pets, plotted, developed personal connections with characters, and generally drive things forward. Yes, the Meta-Knights have gone the literal "extra mile". But that doesn't make everyone else mere observers.

My apologies. To be even more specific, I meant the people who did basically nothing. The folks who just signed on for the cuss of it and didn't do anything when things got serious. People like me.

You guys do a lot. Seriously. Do you realize the amount of times I almost quit the ARG? The number of times I almost closed the browser and walked away? You two are responsible for keeping me here and wanting to help. Don't knock yourselves down like that. You are better than that. :) You are a piece of the Tram, and We need you.

I missed out on a lot of events, because I sleep at 9:30 or 10:30 and miss a lot. Hong Kong Time Zone is my weakness.

I just hope I played a part as well.....because I regard myself as a minor player.

^ What Qara said, I've felt exactly the same way as her many a time but I'm so glad we didn't give up.

If anybody is important, you guys are.
They sometimes say, "the place where I am right now was circled on a map for me"... Unfortunately, I kind of suck at orienteering.

Yes, anyone who exchanges text is a performer in this. There are no Red Shirts here.

There are probably some additional things people could do if they wanted. If part of the problem is metaguards being unable to keep up with the events and interactions, maybe there could be another way to sum up and report on what's happened, visualize the remaining work, clarify what's happening, and so on. It's hard to keep up with it all, or even know where best to jump in at times. Just being there, providing support, providing sense of community can make a difference, especially in a challenging and open-ended situation like this.

For those who want more to do, one option is to keep asking and looking for opportunities. For those who prefer to be less "engaged," that's fine too. It's up to everyone to find their balance, maybe try new things, and so on.

Just like life in general, sometimes things feel like Trial-And-Error Gameplay --
"Trial And Error Gameplay is what happens when a game developer decides the best way to punish a player's incorrect action is to to kill his character, end the mission in failure, or otherwise force him to repeat that part from the beginning again. And, in the most egregious manner possible, this occurs whether or not it was even possible to know in advance that it was a bad move at all. In the end, the only thing the player can do about it is reload the area and/or savepoint, play through that section again, and remember not to do that next time. In essence, Trial-and-Error Gameplay is whenever it is necessary for the player to fail before realizing what is necessary to succeed."

In a fixed-timeframe end-of-the-world scenario, some of those options might not exist. But it's not over yet.
