He sounds like he thought you meant the shadow of the seal? "It doesn't approach from above"
So, like, maybe the
penguins shadow? Or the seal under the ice like Sicon said? *SHRRRRUUUUUG*

Wikipedia wrote:When hunting penguins, the leopard seal patrols the waters near the edges of the ice, almost completely submerged, waiting for the birds to enter the ocean. It is helped in this endeavour by the penguins themselves, which nearly always push one of their own into the water ahead of themselves. It kills the swimming bird by grabbing the feet, then shaking the penguin vigorously and beating its body against the surface of the water repeatedly until the penguin is dead. Previous reports stating the leopard seal skins its prey before feeding have been found to be incorrect. Lacking the teeth necessary to slice its prey into manageable pieces, it flails its prey from side to side to tear and rip it into smaller pieces.
Make of that what you will...

Oh, well, of course it's a warning! That's gonna make us solve this faster! Or make our brains explode, either one.

I already checked out before the Cat did. Once he told me I'd been close but went in the wrong direction again... my brain stopped generating new ideas. I assume this is what writer's block feels like.

Yeah, the Cat's the best reason to stay, sometimes. Hopefully the riddle won't come back to bite us in the butt.

"He would see the seal's shadow through the ice..."
"What would that give you if the ice wasn't clear enough to make a clear shape?"...Foreshadow? I...

So the cat's warning would be "Foreshadowing!"?

I've done so. I honestly don't think that's it, it's the entire point of the riddle and it's not an answer at all. If anything it'll just make him laugh before giving us up as a bad job.

better than him making us cry, and the longer we have him validating answers, the longer we have to come up with the correct answer

Not sure if it's right. I also guessed nothing, but he's not online right now.

I'm pretty sure it is. Metaneko wanted to warn us about something / somebody, and Phantom pretty much fits the definition we narrowed it down to.

I think it's a warning and not a task. It's missing the hashtag, and it's not clearly associated with anything we're doing or planning to do... We're the penguins and are about to be attacked. I don't really know how that would help... But could that be the meaning?
