Mirror? Glass? Window?
The voices in my head tell me that we saved the world. However, they also told me that George Clooney's face is on the dollar bill, so... meh. The voices are more fun, anyway.

Apparently we've guessed it but he's only just got it. He hasn't said what is yet?

That was the first word used. No dice.

You used it, but he took it to mean the shadow of the seal from above. Use it in conjunction with the phrase we have, just in case.

"Surface" and "water" are the only replacements I can come up with offhand. Or "ocean".

What was the name of the room that the Phantom stayed in at the Opera House? Also, what was the name of the Opera House?

Hunger doesn't have any "t"? That's just sad. Now what will it drink?

(OT: No freaking idea. This one isn't nearly as straightforward as the "the" one.)

preparation. - unaware you're defeated and left to hunger.
defeat - prepared you'll face hunger
hunger - prepared you'll be defeated

prep is the odd one? Am I being to literal?

Preparation's the only one that's not negative...
Hunger's the only one that doesn't relate to battle/strategy...
defeat's the only one that I haven't got right now (maybe I should go eat lunch)

And re "shadow under the ice", on re-reading what the cat said, it doesn't look like there's a real play for us to find: "that WOULD be one engaging stage play"... "#foreshadowing"
In the musical, it was the Opera Populaire and Erik liked Box... 5, I think. Beyond that, I can't recall. Despite his connection to the theatre, I think the Phantom's a dead end for this one.

T,U,G( only one to have a G),E (Only one set of 2 vowels), H,(Obvious)

Defeat is the only one to not have an R.

Preparation is the only one with 4 syllables and is the only one that is not an effect. (As in, Hunger comes from not preparing.)

"Odd man out..." Hmm... Check all of the Odd letters. See if they do anything.
