Oh! "Odd man out"-- defeat and hunger both have 6 letters (the same, and even). Preparation has 11 (different, and odd).
Someone want to try that?
Why are we even arguing about a dead fictional dude and hypothetical ninjas?

I tried AShadowUnderTheIce.ezblog.co and as a password for Pheeble, but nothing.

You can eat to stave off hunger, and you can choose to prepare, but defeat isn't entirely under your control. (someone want to try that?)

While the guesses are fairly clever, they're also getting more pedantic. Remember, all of the cat's riddles thus far have had a point, even if they seemed random. Like the "shadow under the ice" one he said was foreshadowing.

Hope I havr the right riddle here, Twitter is tricky to navigate without an account...

One of these is the odd man out: preparation, defeat, hunger. Can you tell me which one and why? :D

Defeat, maybe?

Hunder and preparation are both building up to something, the chance of something being gained, or potential ahead, but Defeat signals the END of something and things being lost.

I'm completely lost. Should we extract an Anagram from there or something? :(

I doubt it. has anybody suggested defeat? Defeat is the end of soemthing, a conclusive point, but preparation and hunger are full of longing and possibilities.

Wait, at this point has EVERYTHING been suggested?
It is not about the words themselves, but the context in which they can be properly used :D
Well, that clears that up!

(New guess: "preparation" can't be used as a verb; defeat and hunger can.)

Yeah, that was my guess. After a mistaken "Hunger's the only verb" tweet, that is . :P Wouldn't 'cha know I'm an English major? :?

So, the words themselves are too concrete, and my answer was too abstract. What is he looking for?
The voices in my head tell me that we saved the world. However, they also told me that George Clooney's face is on the dollar bill, so... meh. The voices are more fun, anyway.

What about defeat as you can prepare a meal, and you can hunger for one, but defeat is a completely different kettle of fish.

Has anybody tried that?

Well, crud, I'm stumped then :(

One of us must have gotten it right - there are only three options, so it's just figuring out the WHY, now...

Preparation is concrete-- people usually have some physical instance of preparation. Whereas hunger and defeat are more abstract; you can't prove either one to someone else. (anyone want to try it?)

Edit: He gave us another hint--
Cheshire Cat wrote:How can you USE this odd man out? It's about the context in which *you* can use them

So how about: We can use preparation and hunger to achieve something; defeat is an ends, not a means.

Maybe the answer is Hungry Man.

It's a type of food brand, and would be the only "Man" out of those 3.

Word man confirmed to not be important.
